Origins of the KH variants of the Shonen characters

Goku (KH)

This Goku is recruited by Master Angel Whis (KH). He comes from a timeline where he fails to stop Demon King Piccolo and loses his friends. As Demon King Piccolo powers up his Demon Wave blast and fires it at a beaten Goku, the attack hits and buries him under dirt and sand. Hours later, Kid Goku digs himself out of the ditch and sees the world overtaken by Demon King Piccolo, with his friends killed or enslaved. Broken and in despair, Goku lies on the ground until Master Angel Whis (KH) appears, heals his wounds and broken bones, and offers him the chance to become a warrior of the Shonen Kingdom.

Gohan (KH)

This Gohan comes from a timeline where the Saiyans kill every Z Warrior. Gohan is left as the last fighter standing against Vegeta and Nappa. Recruited by Master Angel Whis (KH), he enters the Shonen Kingdom's Hyperbolic Time Chamber during the events of The Fallen Prince — three days of training inside the chamber where he grows from an 8-year-old into an 11-year-old before emerging to rejoin the fight.

Naruto (KH)

This Naruto is recruited by Master Angel Whis (KH). He comes from a dark timeline where he becomes a rogue ninja after the events involving the Sound Four. While trying to stop Sasuke from going to Orochimaru, Naruto accidentally kills him. Kakashi watches as Naruto, in his One-Tailed cloak, glares down at Sasuke's body. Nearly out of energy and hunted by the Anbu, Naruto flees and runs into a man in a hoodie holding a staff, who offers to recruit him.

Sasuke (KH)

This Sasuke comes from a dark timeline during the Sound Four and Final Valley events. He kills Naruto and awakens his Mangekyō Sharingan early. Injured, scarred, and filled with regret after the battle, he collapses in emotional and physical pain. When the Anbu and Kakashi catch up to him, Sasuke's Susano'o activates in pure rage and destroys them. Collapsing once more, he is approached by Whis (KH) in a hoodie robe, who recruits him into the Shonen Kingdom.

Sonic (KH)

Sonic (KH) comes from a dark timeline where Shadow fails to use the last of his energy to perform Chaos Control on the Space Colony ARK. Super Sonic watches helplessly as the ARK, with his friends aboard, crashes toward Earth while Super Shadow falls to his demise. The ARK destroys the planet, killing his friends and Shadow. Super Sonic then collapses onto the surface of an asteroid.

Shadow (KH)

Shadow (KH) comes from a timeline where Mephiles turns the world against him. At the mercy of G.U.N.'s forces and Omega, Whis sends Xzerius to save Shadow from his doomed fate.

Ace (KH)

This Ace is recruited by Whis from a broken timeline in which he fails to save Luffy from Akainu's fatal strike.

Boruto (KH)

This Boruto comes from a timeline in which Momoshiki takes over after Kawaki seals Naruto and Hinata. In this version of events, Eida's Omnipotence activates before Kawaki can reach Boruto, because Kawaki leaves earlier and goes into hiding without cutting out Boruto's eye. With the village now hunting him, Boruto is devastated and confused. Overpowered by the village and overwhelmed by Momoshiki's Karma, Borushiki takes control and begins attacking the village. This leads to a battle between Borushiki and Sasuke, during which Boruto loses an eye to Sasuke's sword strike — an "eye for an eye" after Boruto had previously taken Sasuke's Rinne Sharingan with a kunai. After Boruto nearly kills Sasuke, Momoshiki shuts down at the last second to avoid having his Byakugan cut out.
